A seminar on Saturday at the Long Beach Garden Hotel & Spa was attended by grad students from Thammasart University. The Deputy Governor of Chonburi Mr. Pongsak Preechawit opened the tutorial, which sought to educate and prepare the students to lead their local communities, when countries in East Asia join together to form the Asean Community.
The students are in the Master’s Degree program in Political Science at Thammasart University, and they will be expected to guide many Thai communities when Thailand becomes a leading country in the Asean Community. The Asean compact will soon form stronger ties between the SE Asian countries, bringing all together in one community, under the slogan “One Vision, One Identity, One Unity”, and Thailand needs to be well informed regarding the Region’s political, economic, social Matters.
Forming an economic community will help Southeast Asia boost its competitiveness, and turn SE Asia into a true single market. Also, many problems such as air pollution, avian flu, AIDS all require regional coordination. The future of the region and of ASEAN will depend on success in community building.
