As a tropical country, Indonesia has developed various drinks that can be a thirst cooling. Most are even hereditary heritage that became a tradition. If you have not had the opportunity to taste it, let’s first know more about the origin and its characteristic. Here are four legendary drinks in Indonesia!
1. Es Doger
Quite popular in the ears of Indonesian, it turns out Ice Doger does not keep a definite historical record. According to some informants, Es Doger comes from Cirebon and then extends to other areas of Java. Formerly its name known as Es Serut. Es Serut is sold by the way shouldered, but because it takes a long time and the sale is not very satisfactory, then the idea came up to use the cart (gerobak in Indonesia language). Unexpectedly selling using a cart attracts buyers so then its called as Es Doger which stands for Es Dorong Gerobak. Originally Es Doger only consists of tapai, black sticky rice, and pacar cina. After using the cart then Es Doger added with avocado, coconut, or jackfruit. Es Doger is quite hard to find because the cart that continues to move, but it sales almost in every city of Indonesia.
2. Es Goyobod
Not as fresh as its history, Es Goyobod originated from an attempt to make a fortune in Jakarta in the 1930s by a Sundanese merchant named Junaedi. Unfortunately the tongue of Jakarta’s people is less in line with it. Not despairing with the failure of his father, Usep Suryana took his proficiency to Bandung in 1940. Despite the bestselling, the tragedy of Bandung Lautan Api in 1946 forced him to herd Es Goyobod to Garut. He did not think the enthusiasm of Garut people became a legend for Es Goyobod. Now Es Goyobod has spread in the cities of West Java. The meaning of Goyobod is soaking wet from the Sundanese language. Es Goyobod has a unique because it contains sago palm dough mixed with hunkwe. The freshness of shaved ice, sugar sauce, milk, sugar palm fruit, young coconut, bread, and some fruits make Es Goyobod still exist in people’s hearts until now.
3. Es Teler
Born around the 1980s in the metropolitan city of Jakarta, Es Teler was born from the hands of a traveling cigarette vendor. Starting from a dream, Tukiman meets a grandfather in the incarnation of a rabbit. The grandfather then suggests that if Tukiman wants to live well then he has to sell the fresh ones. From the dream, Tukiman began selling ice and found a chatty buyer. The request is considered strange, which is mixing the avocado, jackfruit, young coconut, milk, syrup, and mixed ice. The young man then said, ” Sedap dan bisa bikin teler“. The story then gave birth to the name Es Teler. Nowadays Es Teler is almost sold across the archipelago, especially in Java.
4. Es Selendang Mayang
One of the drinks that its existence is almost extinct is from Betawi. Its name comes from a beautiful red, white, and green that resembling selendang (in English means scarf) and mayang which means thick and sweet. Es Selendang Mayang made from rice flour. The dressing is made from coconut milk, pandan leaves, and brown sugar. Es Selendang Mayang can be found in a place that still cultivate Betawi namely Jakarta to be exact in Kota Tua.
