Cambodia is one of the majestic countries in Southeast Asia. After having been through many downfalls, it has proven itself to be a potential by overcoming numerous obstacles, developing rapidly within these past three decades. Cambodia is also one of the newer members of ASEAN, an association composed of ten Southeast Asian countries. Having joined the association just over two decades ago, the term ‘ASEAN’ is still popular and provides a hopeful envision among young Cambodian people.
The ASEAN’s motto, “One vision, One identity, One community”, provides a very hopeful image to the Cambodian citizens. The association might have been composed the ten neighboring Southeast Asian States, but there is still gap between the nations. Bearing that thought in mind, we hope that ASEAN could bridge the gap between the countries, offer more space for development and provide more opportunities for young
ASEAN Community was officially launched on 31st December 2015, marking a symbolic event in the ASEAN history, hoping that it will strengthen intra-regional trade and the free flow of capital, goods, skilled labor and services within the regional groupings 10 member countries. However, it’s just the new beginning of the long journey in making the community fully realized and integrated. The idea of integration brought by ASEAN creates a very optimistic picture for Cambodian people as well as other member nations where we might stand on a different ground level but wish to reunite together.
Even though Cambodia is one of the newer members of the association, having just joined the membership in 1999, Cambodian people are familiar and place their hopes in the long-awaited integration. Young people proves to be a very crucial force in leading the mission into the right direction. Their effort might seem individual and small but it has a very powerful impact that can lead us to a major change toward a hopeful future, so youth voice is very crucial to the overall direction.
